This Is How You Need To Say Your Prayers

Do you pray at all? How do you say your prayers?

First off, we have to take a walk into how Jesus Christ taught His disciples, that they should pray.

There is no specified or particular way or method given to us anywhere in the scripture on how to pray, except the one our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth taught His disciples, which we see today as "Our Lord's Prayer".

When His disciples asked Him to teach them how to pray, Jesus Christ answered them saying:

(Matthew 6:5-15)

5. 'And when you pray, do not imitate the hypocrites: for they love to say their prayers standing up in the synagogues and at the street corners for people to see them. In truth I tell you, they have had their reward.

That is, if you pray like the hypocrites your reward will be only the praise you are seeking from human beings; you won't get anything from God Almighty Who hates pride.

6. But when you pray, go to your private room, shut yourself in, and so pray to your Father who is in that secret place, and your Father who sees all that is done in secret will reward you.

7. 'In your prayers do not babble as the gentiles do, for they think that by using many words they will make themselves heard'.

8. Do not be like them; your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

9. So, you should pray like this: "Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name,

10. your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

11. Give us today our daily bread.

12. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

13. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from all Evil. Amen.

14. 'Yes, if you forgive others their failings, your heavenly Father will forgive you yours;


15. but if you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive your failings either'.

Here, you can observe that our Lord Jesus Christ structured the Prayer under 3 major headings; Thanksgiving(stage you thank God for His goodness in your life), forgiveness(stage you ask God to forgive you for your wrong doings) and supplication for your daily needs(and others). 

It can be seen as a model or pattern or hint on how prayer should be said.

Hence, this is how I personally say my prayers whenever I need to say a prayer; a pattern or model of prayer based on our Lord's prayer(prayer  steps modelled on our Lord's prayer).

You're very much free to adopt same prayer model or pattern  whenever you want to talk to God Almighty for anything; one really needs effective prayers in the battles or warfare against principalities and powers(Satan and all evil spirits(agents of Satan)).

Evocation(Summoning God) with good and suitable songs

This is usually my preprayer rituals in order to be in the mood or attitude of prayer. 

Here, you need to try and be in the presence of Holy Trinity by evoking Them with adoration, praises or worship; this can be done with relevant songs.

You should note that, it is very important to always mix prayers with songs(relevant Christian songs); in fact prayer is song, and song is prayer. 

You have to start your prayers in the Name of the Father(God Almighty), name of the Son(Jesus Christ His Only Begotten Son) and the Name of the Holy Spirit(your comforter).

To begin with, you need to be silent for a moment; imagine yourself being in the presence of Holy Trinity ready to present your case(your prayer point) against Satan and his agents(evil spirits).

Songs of Praises and Worship

Then, start singing praises, worship or adoration songs to the Lords(Holy Trinity), in order to invite or bring them down to the scene(prayer arena).

Example:

"Draw me nearer nearer to thee Lord, draw me nearer nearer to thee. 

Draw me closer closer to thee Lord, draw me closer closer to thee."

"Oh! My song everyday father draw me nearer, draw me nearer nearer to thee.   Oh! My song everyday father draw me nearer, draw me nearer nearer to thee."

Etc. 

Thanksgiving to God for His Goodness

God, at least, do one thing daily for you; at least you are alive today is because of His grace and mercy. Hence, there is need to thank God Almighty  everyday of your life on planet, earth.

Generally, the purpose or essence of thanking or showing gratitude to God lies on the fact that,  if you thank somebody(including God) for what you received in the past,  the person will be happy and eager(ready) to do even more for you next time you ask.

You need to also learn to thank God Almighty for what He is about to do.

That shows the level of faith you have in Him; it shows that you have absolute believe or faith that He will do what you are asking for, if what you are asking for is His will for you. 

For the reasons above,  remember God's goodness; mercy and love for you; what He has/had done, what He is about to do and what He will continue to do for you.

Thank Him for all these things(His kindness, love, blessings, mercy, protection, etc), so that He will be glad and ever ready to do more for you.

Asking for Forgiveness of Sin

You and I comit sin almost every minute of the day, and God Almighty is a merciful Father. 

According to Romans 3:23-24, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

And, according to 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness".

Hence, there is need for confession of our sins, supplication for mercy and forgiveness.

Right now, sincerely ask Him to have mercy on you and forgive you for all your sin. 

Bible Reading

After asking for forgiveness of sins,  you need to read Bible quotation(s) that is/are relevant to your prayer point(s).

It is pertinent to always align or back prayers with bible quotations; it helps you to stay on the line(not derailing), and also by so doing you are reminding God His words. 

You have to meditatively study the bible verse(s) or quotation(s), and use them to remind God His promises. 

That He never changes; what He has done before(in the Bible) He will always do it in the lives of His people or children, in His own time.

Prayer Proper

You have prayer intention(s), here is where you humbly lay it/them down for God's consideration. You need to pray with absolute faith that whether God answers your prayer or not, He is still God Almighty who you will worship all the days of your life on earth. 

That is to say,  you need to pray because God is your creator and should be honored or worshipped, not mainly for worldly things you are asking from Him, but for your salvation.

You need to also pray with hope, for God answer prayer in three ways(either yes, no or delay for the right time).

May our good Lord answer your prayers or grant your intentions that are His wills for you. In the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth I make this prayer, amen!
